Fungal nail infection is also known as Onychomycosis. It is a fungal infection of the skin beneath your nail (nail bed) and the actual nail (nail plate).

The causative organisms (fungai) are often found naturally on our skin, but infections occurs when these organisms colonise and then infect tissue.

Most commonly, nail fungus occurs secondary to skin fungus of the foot called Tinea Pedis - mostly commonly referred to as Athletes Foot.

Treating it

Fungal nail infection is typically a long treatment process, however there are several different effective treatment options available that can be used to treat fungal nail infections. The type of treatment will depend on the severity of the fungal nail along with consideration of a persons medical history.

My big toenail had become very discoloured and I knew something wasn’t right with it. After booking an appointment with Jane she advised that I had a fungal nail infection and suggested treatment to use.
